The art of chiropractic began in 1895 after the first adjustment was performed by D.D. Palmer. Various styles of manipulation have been performed around the world for hundreds of years prior, however D.D. Palmer was the first to dive deep into the science behind it, learning the anatomy, physiology and how chiropractic can play a role in healing the body. The word ‘chiropractic’ comes from the Greek words “cheir”, which translates to ‘hand’ and “praktos”, translating to ‘done’, i.e. Done by Hand.
The first adjustment in 1895 was inspirational to D.D. Palmer due to the unique outcome. After studying the science of chiropractic and seeing the many ways chiropractic adjustments could relieve pain and discomfort for many people, he soon developed the Palmer School of Cure in 1897, which is now know as Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa.
Palmer College of Chiropractic has expanded to three campuses around the United States, as well as many other chiropractic college and universities such as Life, Logan, and many more. The studies has expanded drastically over the years, and continue to do so as the science of healthcare begins to expand. Stay tuned for a more detailed explanation of the studies and requirements of all chiropractic students. Never stop learning!
